New Commuter Tax — A new employer tax has been adopted effective March 1, 2009. Known as the metropolitan commuter transportation mobility tax (“commuter tax”), every person who received a W-2 is subject to the commuter tax. The tax must be paid by the employer (namely, the local church) without salary deduction. There is no exemption from the tax for churches or other charities. Click here to read more>>

Revised Baptismal Liturgy: At the last General Conference, the liturgy for baptism was slightly changed. In section 14, instead of saying, "Will you be loyal to the UMC?" it says "Will you be loyal to Christ through the UMC..." Section 15 adds "witness" to the question "Will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service and your witness."
