The NYAC Volunteers in Mission team took off from JFK this morning at 11:29am, and will arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa tomorrow, then continue on to Beria, Mozambique. After their stay in Beira they will visit Lichinga before returning to the US October 29.
Team members this year, all veteran Mozambique VIM:
The main VIM projects for the north conference this year are:
1. The Bishop’s Residence and Conference Center. The team will have an opportunity to spend time here, view the progress on the building, and meet with conference leaders.
2. Scholarships
3. The Lichinga Farm Project - following Beira the team will be visiting Lichinga. Because of the flight schedules they will be staying overnight in Nampula, which affords them the opportunity to visit with Helena Jeremias, one of scholarship students who will graduate in December. They will visit Lichinga UMC, the Sister Conferences Connection’s first project in the north.
4. The computer Internet cafe project
5. The English school
6. Student art exchange
The team also hope to go to Gorongosa Park to see if this will be a good side destination for future trips. (for a video view of the park, go to http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4546597n )
While Internet access will be limited, we expect to have some contact. They will not be able to receive individual replies, but hope to be able to send periodic updates.
Please keep the team and their mission in your prayers. We especially ask that you pray for them at noon (EDT). That is 6pm in Mozambique and the team will be at dinner and having daily devotionals.
Obrigado.
